His wife is a former soccer standout at Oak Hall School. Her parents live in Gainesville. He and his wife have been together since senior year in high school. She took a soccer scholarship at Duke. 

 

His uncle Dan was a kicker in the NFL for the 1982 season - he played five games (three of which were for the Baltimore Colts).

2005 - Played for the Chatham Anglers in the Cape Cod Baseball League.

 

2006 - Drafted by the Detroit Tigers (6th overall). Some people thought he might go first overall but the Kansas City Royals picked Luke Hochevar instead.

 

2007 - Traded from the Detroit Tigers (with Cameron Maybin, Mike Rabelo, Dallas Trahern, Eulogio de la Cruz and Burke Badenhop) to the Florida Marlins for Dontrelle Willis and Miguel Cabrera.

 

2010 - Traded from the Marlins to the Boston Red Sox for Dustin Richardson.

 

2014 - Traded from the Red Sox to the Baltimore Orioles for Eduardo Rodriguez.

 

2014 - Signed a 4-year deal with the New York Yankees. 

 

2016 - Traded from the Yankees to Cleveland for Clint Frazier, Justus Sheffield, Ben Heller and J. P. Feyereisen.[

 

2016 - Lost in game 7 of the World Series to the Chicago Cubs.
