His father is an ironworker in Las Vegas. Bryce brought his father to pitch for him in the 2013 Home Run Derby and his dad decided to pitch him cutters. 


His brother Bryan was drafted in 2011 by the Nationals (30th round) as a pitcher. When Bryce attended college his brother Bryan transferred from Cal State Northridge to play beside him.

He and his wife were married in December 2016 in San Diego California Temple (Mormon Temple). Kayla played soccer at Ohio State and Brigham Young University (Cougars).

This school plays in the Scenic West Athletic Conference (SWAC) in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA). In the SWAC players use wooden bats. 


He played catcher in high school and college.

2010 - Drafted by the Washington Nationals (1st overall).

 

2012 - April 28th - Major League debut with the Washington Nationals.

2013 - Harper was named the National League Rookie of the Year.

2015 - Harper won the NL MVP.

2009 - As a 16-year-old competing in a high school home run derby, he hit a 502-foot home run (with an aluminum bat) at Tropicana Field. The footage went viral at the time.

​

In high school he appeared on Sports Illustrated with the caption "Baseball’s Chosen One."


2012 - After a game against the Toronto Blue Jays a reporter asked Harper if he was planning to take advantage of Ontario's lower drinking age (19) while in town. Harper got angry and replied, "I'm not going to answer that. That's a clown question, bro." The comment was the subject of memes and Harper filed an application to trademark the phrase. 2015 - The day after being eliminated from playoff contention Bryce hit a fly ball and jogged to first. Jonathan Papelbon (Harper's team's closer at the time) yelled at him Papelbon could be seen saying, "You've got to run that ... ball out" and Bryce replied with hostility. The two got into an argument and a fight (see video).  


2016 - Harper was ejected for yelling at Umpire Brian Knight from the dugout. After the game he returned to the field to celebrate the win with his teammates and was caught shouting profanity towards Knight. Two days later, Harper was given a 1-game suspension and a fine.


2017 - Harper was hit by a pitch from Hunter Strickland. Harper charged the mound and tried to throw his helmet at Strickland before the two players exchanged punches. A bench-clearing brawl ensued and Michael Morse suffered a serious concussion. Harper was ejected and suspended 4 games (appealed for 3 games) (see video).

He said he wears No. 34 because of Mickey Mantle (No. 7 and 3+4=7)

 

He is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (he does not drink alcohol).

Dallas Cowboys, New York Yankees, Los Angeles Lakers, Duke basketball, Texas Longhorns football (this is not a joke).


He was asked in an interview about an incorrect Mormon stereotype. His response was, “Oh my gosh, you really put that out there? I mean c’mon; that’s brutal. That everybody likes BYU that’s Mormon. I hate BYU." Note: His spouse played soccer for the BYU Cougars.
