His father is a retired firefighter. Mike Sr. is also a baseball coach. His father coached along side Todd Fitz-Gerald (Eric's high school coach) at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.

 

His mother is a nurse. 

 

His brother played baseball at Florida State university and is now a stock broker.

Childhood friend: Deven Marrero 
The Hosmer family helped look after Deven Marrero and his sisters after there father was incarcerated. 

​

The family hired a highly regarded hitting coach named Bladimir Marrero (uncle of Deven) to help Eric growing up.

Todd Fitz-Gerald was of the coach Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School when the school was the victim of a 2018 mass shooting.

He earned a scholarship to Arizona State University but he did not attend.

2008 - Drafted by the Kansas City Royals (3rd overall).

2011 - May 6th - Major League debut with the Kansas City Royals.

 

2014 - Lost the World Series with the Kansas City Royals to the San Francisco Giants.

 

2015 - Won the World Series with the Kansas City Royals to the New York Mets.

 

2018 - Signed an 8-year contract with the San Diego Padres ($144 million).
