His father played in the Giants organization for a short time before moving to New York. Jorge and his family stayed in the Dominican Republic. He saw his father for the first time when he was 4 years old.

Miguel Sano was his childhood neighbour. Although they noted that they were not actually friends growing up they likely played baseball against each other and their mothers worked together in a factory.
