His father played in the MLB (a Seattle Mariner when Michael was born). He was also a hitting coach in the Mets and Blue Jays organizations. He (Mickey) grew up in Catskill (New York).

His cousin Justin used to be in Cleveland’s system.

His grandfather was a foundry worker.

​

He married his wife on November 17, 2012.

In the early 1980s, Mike Tyson’s trainer brought him to upstate New York to keep him out of the trouble in Brooklyn and he lived with Michael’s grandparents. Mike Tyson was a teenager at the time.
