1999 - Signed by the Marlins as an amateur free agent.
2003 - June 20th - Major League debut for the Florida Marlins.
2007 - Signed a one-year contract with the Marlins ($7.4 million).
2007- Traded from the Marlins (with Dontrelle Willis) to the Detroit Tigers for Andrew Miller, Dallas Trahern, Eulogio De La Cruz, Burke Badenhop, Cameron Maybin, and Mike Rabelo.

2011 - Arrested in Florida on suspicion for drunken driving and resisting arrest. When he was pulled over he began drinking scotch in front of the police officer. This incident occured in Fort Pierce, Florida. He was locked up in St. Lucie County Jail.
Belkis Mariela Rodriguez, of Orlando sued Cabrera in Florida and alleges that he slashed child-support payments.
