2014 - Gurriel signed a one-year contract with the Yokohama DeNA BayStars (Japanese Central League).

2016 - Signed a 5-year contract with the Houston Astros ($47.5 million).

2016 - August 21st - Major League debut with the Houston Astros.

2017 - He won a World Series with the Houston Astros.

2017 - During Game 3 of the World Series he hit a home run off Yu Darvish. When the camera showed him in the dugout he was stretching the sides of his eyes and mouthing "chinito" (little Chinese in Spanish). He was suspended the first 5 games of 2018 for the actions.


His family is considered "baseball royalty" in Cuba based on the strong careers of both him and his father. His father is considered the "Babe Ruth" of Cuba.
