His parents met at Dartmouth College.

 

His brother Jacob was selected in 18th round of 2016 MLB Draft by San Francisco Giants (No. 545 overall). He had previously attended Miami University.

Friends with David Ross. After Heyward signed his contract with the Cubs in 2016 he agreed to pay for all hotel suites large enough for Ross, his wife, and their three children during road trips for the 2016 season.

2007 - Drafted by the Atlanta Braves (14th overall).


2010 - April 5th - Major League debut with the Atlanta Braves. His first pitch in the major leagues he hit a three-run home run.


2010 - NL Rookie of the Year.


2014 - Traded from the Braves (with Jordan Walden) to the St. Louis Cardinals for Shelby Miller and Tyrell Jenkins. 


2015 - Signed an 8-year contract with the Chicago Cubs ($184 million).


2016 - Won the World Series with the Chicago Cubs against Cleveland.

2013 - Pitcher Jon Niese (New York Mets) hit Heyward in the face with a pitch (August 21) and fractured his jaw. Despite it ending his season he walked off the field. (see video). 


2013 - He played outfield for the Braves beside brothers Justin and B. J. (Melvin) Upton.
